Celeb Fashion Lines Reach a New Low

Our mixed feelings about all of these celeb fashion lines are well known to readers of this blog. We think some are nice but mostly they are really overpriced, something that is almost a slap in the face in these harder economic times.

But then, they give a 'fashion line' of headbands to an actress! First, do we need ANOTHER fashion line from an actress? Second – headbands!?! Third- Mischa Barton? We didn't even realize she was still considered a celebrity, since we haven't seen her in anything lately.

We thought her handbag line was OK. Some pieces were a reasonable price though others were way out there. But now, she will have a hair accessory line ranging in price from $40-200.

Yep, you read that right – the price of her new hair accessories will start at $40. We have never spent that much for a single hair decoration in our life, much less $200 for one.

Call us crazy, but we doubt there is going to be a huge market for $200 headbands. Everyone is tightening their belts right now, and we can think of lots of things we could buy with that money besides a single headband. But we gotta say, like most things we are very curious to see what they look like. Stay tuned!

Red Carpet Style: The Alma Awards

The Alma Awards may not be the Academy Awards, but we love them anyways. People dress up and come out to celebrate Hispanic culture in film, television and the arts. There is almost always something inspiring in the show, along with a lot of laughs and fun. But we wanna see what the gorgeous Latino ladies are wearing, too!

Eva Longoria Parker

Host Eva Longoria Parker had a whopping nine clothing changes! We love our clothes but that is a lot of changing! She looks glam and gorgeous here, though.

Newest Trends – In or Fashion Sin?

We love dissecting new fashion trends to see if it is something we would wear. Some of them are definitely in, while others we wouldn't be caught dead in. But for these latest hot looks (or messes), we are going to let you decide.

We were never really on board with the whole leggings trend, though it was tolerable (as long as they weren't used in the place of pants). But latex leggings? Somebody give us a bucket, our gag reflex is failing.

Satin is hard to wear as footwear because it stains and discolors so easily. A simple city puddle could render your new shoes unusable. But wearing them with colors that don't match or with dark tights or hose (like Mischa Barton here) is intolerable.

Sheer is in, without a doubt. Think back to our post about Madonna's Rock N Roll Hall of Fame garb. But we kind of like this type of sheer better, the sheer necklines. It is pretty demure considering that it is see-through and yet still classy and elegant. We will take this over a sheer dress or skirt that practically shows your pelvis.

Red Carpet Bumpmania

We didn't realize just how many pregnant actresses there were on the red carpet recently. Not only were there quite a few but they looked absolutely smashing! Gone are the days when Hollywood starlets tried to hide their pregnancies with baggy clothes or by staying out of the public eye. These days, women flaunt their bellies and we are loving it!

Jessica Alba admitted she was in her third trimester while walking the red carpet. Seems like the third trimester is the charm, as Alba was glowing like never before.

Airport Chic

With the newest FAA restrictions on what you can and can't bring onto a plane, some people are packing light in their carry-on bags. And we won't even get into the whole taking off your shoes thing, since we always manage to get behind the person who never heard of a pedicure.

But our favorite Hollywood starlets aren't letting a little thing like Homeland Security cramp their airport style.

Jessica Simpson shows that you can still look glam while dressing down. She is carrying the new Cavalli leopard print bag, but we think she would look better with one of our adorable new giraffe print bags instead.

Style Icon: Madonna

We heart Madonna, but she has worn some really kooky things over the years!

Boy, we can't ever see ourselves wearing something like that, unless it was to a costume party. But even then …

Of course, its not all bad. And we really loved her line for H&M.

But we just can't forgive her dress that she wore this week for her induction into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.

Madge had been living in England and covering up so much during the winters there lately that we almost forgot about her risqué past. But she reminded us with this peek-a-boo dress that only Iggy Pop could top, since he was wearing no shirt.

We don't like the dress at all, and its not because it is see-through. To the contrary, we don't mind well-made sheer sheaths. What we don't like is the styling and colors on her. For one of the bigger nights of her career, she could have gone different.

These three ladies have all worn see-thru dresses lately and they all looked fabulous. Maybe we just don't like black on Madonna, or maybe it was the dowdy hair, but she just didn't pull it off like these girls did.

However, she wouldn't be Madonna if she did everything the conventional way, and that's why we love her, and that's why she is one of our style icons. We just wish she would get a better stylist. Or hairdresser. Or both.

Here Comes the Spice Girls Media Blitz!

We knew when the Spice Girls announced their reunion tour awhile back that the dozen or so dates announced would not be enough. Though we don't exactly jam to their music, they have tons of fans around the world and a handful of concerts simply wouldn’t be enough.

Little did we know just how right we would be. They had to add dozens of new dates, and have yet to announce any in New York City, where demand will surely be quite high. In addition to these dates for fans, the Girls have announced one more big and important date – a November 15th appearance at this year's Victoria's Secret fashion show. After the success of Justin Timberlake last year, we guess the peeps at Victoria's wanted to up the ante a bit.

But that is not the only Spice Girls news. Two other big pieces were revealed in the last week: the first is that Roberto Cavalli will be dressing Scary, Posh, Sporty, Ginger and Baby. It had been previously thought that Donatella Versace would outfit them, but that has apparently fallen through (with no reason as to why). The other big news is that U2 frontman Bono will be collaborating with the girls on a song that they will play on their tour.

Should be a very interesting collaboration indeed, we can't wait to hear what it sounds like!

Sheryl Crow, Fashion Designer

Don't act surprised. We weren't. It seems like every other day, we report on the newest celeb designer wannabe that has inexplicably signed a deal for their own clothing line. This time, it is musician Sheryl Crow.

We like Crow's music but some of her past fashion choices have been less than inspired. Her style seems to be very basic, and there is nothing wrong with that. But with a celebrity label comes celebrity prices, and we are not going to pay extra for something we can get at Target just because it has Crowe's name attached.

That being said, the deal is supposedly with Western Glove Works and it will be a line made up of primarily denim that is tentatively called Bootheel Trading Co. by Sheryl Crow. We do love our denim, so like anything else we will wait to pass judgment until we see the clothes. Unfortunately, we will be waiting another year, since the line is not slated for release until fall of 2008.

In case the Western Glove Works name sounds familiar, it is probably because they own Silver Jeans and 1921. They also recently put out the DVB Denim collection, which is that of David and Victoria Beckham. Here are a few shots of that collection:

Shoes Made by Designers Who Hate Women

We always make a point to do a blog post whenever we run across any shoes that we think are completely outrageous. And of course with Paris Fashion Week just completing its run, there have been more than usual. So let's talk about some of these shoes and why on earth someone would think it was a good idea.

This one has been around awhile, but we haven't posted it here before, so we thought we would. How anyone even straps those on, much less walks in them, is beyond our comprehension.

The reason we thought of the aforementioned pair is because this pair that Victoria Beckham wore on a recent Paris photo shoot reminded us of them. These were designed just for her, apparently and she had to learn how to walk in them … duh!

We wonder how long it took to learn to walk in these, as well. Or can you only stand around in them?

Then, there are painful shoes of another sort. These may actually be quite comfortable, but they are one of the ugliest pairs of shoes we have ever seen … which is a pain of a whole different kind, but one that equally hurts …

Yep, crocs have gone Uggs on us. Since we have always thought both shoes were hideous, this unnatural and evil spawn makes our fashion spidey sense tingle, and not in a good way.

Sex and the City: WHAT Are They Thinking?

Ok, so we have professed our love for all things Sarah Jessica Parker, including the groundbreaking series "Sex and the City." We cried when it left the airwaves (yes, literally) and have been salivating for word as to when the much-anticipated movie would start filming.

Well, not that it is filming all over NYC, there are obviously some pictures that have been leaked and we are NOT happy about some of them. We know the show was always on the cutting edge of fashion, and we expect no less of the Big Screen version. However, some of these choices … Well, we will let you judge for yourself.

Is this a flashback to when our Fab Four ladies met? Because if this is not a flashback to 1980s fashion, then we are a little worried about Samantha's recent change in style.

Yeah … we don't know what to say. If we were SJP, we don't think we would be smiling like she is.

We can't decide which is uglier – the cheesy novelty bag or those hideous shoes.

What on EARTH is that feather thing on the side of SJP's veil? And why is the bodice of her gown so ill-fitting? She is swimming in the top, and those jewels look almost like stains.

The one redeeming factor is that we hear that many of these scenes (including the wedding one) are fantasies of the girls being played out and not a part of the actual storyline. Let's hope these clothes aren't a part of the storyline by the time it reaches cineplexes.
