Red Carpet Style: The Alma Awards

The Alma Awards may not be the Academy Awards, but we love them anyways. People dress up and come out to celebrate Hispanic culture in film, television and the arts. There is almost always something inspiring in the show, along with a lot of laughs and fun. But we wanna see what the gorgeous Latino ladies are wearing, too!

Eva Longoria Parker

Host Eva Longoria Parker had a whopping nine clothing changes! We love our clothes but that is a lot of changing! She looks glam and gorgeous here, though.

Newest Trends – In or Fashion Sin?

We love dissecting new fashion trends to see if it is something we would wear. Some of them are definitely in, while others we wouldn't be caught dead in. But for these latest hot looks (or messes), we are going to let you decide.

We were never really on board with the whole leggings trend, though it was tolerable (as long as they weren't used in the place of pants). But latex leggings? Somebody give us a bucket, our gag reflex is failing.

Satin is hard to wear as footwear because it stains and discolors so easily. A simple city puddle could render your new shoes unusable. But wearing them with colors that don't match or with dark tights or hose (like Mischa Barton here) is intolerable.

Sheer is in, without a doubt. Think back to our post about Madonna's Rock N Roll Hall of Fame garb. But we kind of like this type of sheer better, the sheer necklines. It is pretty demure considering that it is see-through and yet still classy and elegant. We will take this over a sheer dress or skirt that practically shows your pelvis.

Red Carpet Bumpmania

We didn't realize just how many pregnant actresses there were on the red carpet recently. Not only were there quite a few but they looked absolutely smashing! Gone are the days when Hollywood starlets tried to hide their pregnancies with baggy clothes or by staying out of the public eye. These days, women flaunt their bellies and we are loving it!

Jessica Alba admitted she was in her third trimester while walking the red carpet. Seems like the third trimester is the charm, as Alba was glowing like never before.

Airport Chic

With the newest FAA restrictions on what you can and can't bring onto a plane, some people are packing light in their carry-on bags. And we won't even get into the whole taking off your shoes thing, since we always manage to get behind the person who never heard of a pedicure.

But our favorite Hollywood starlets aren't letting a little thing like Homeland Security cramp their airport style.

Jessica Simpson shows that you can still look glam while dressing down. She is carrying the new Cavalli leopard print bag, but we think she would look better with one of our adorable new giraffe print bags instead.

Style Icon: Madonna

We heart Madonna, but she has worn some really kooky things over the years!

Boy, we can't ever see ourselves wearing something like that, unless it was to a costume party. But even then …

Of course, its not all bad. And we really loved her line for H&M.

But we just can't forgive her dress that she wore this week for her induction into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.

Madge had been living in England and covering up so much during the winters there lately that we almost forgot about her risqué past. But she reminded us with this peek-a-boo dress that only Iggy Pop could top, since he was wearing no shirt.

We don't like the dress at all, and its not because it is see-through. To the contrary, we don't mind well-made sheer sheaths. What we don't like is the styling and colors on her. For one of the bigger nights of her career, she could have gone different.

These three ladies have all worn see-thru dresses lately and they all looked fabulous. Maybe we just don't like black on Madonna, or maybe it was the dowdy hair, but she just didn't pull it off like these girls did.

However, she wouldn't be Madonna if she did everything the conventional way, and that's why we love her, and that's why she is one of our style icons. We just wish she would get a better stylist. Or hairdresser. Or both.

Hot Mama: Halle Berry

We have always loved Halle Berry. We have blogged about her before. In fact, way back in the fall we had a blog post here about new or expectant moms that included the likes of Christina Aguilera and Nicole Richie, who have both already given birth.

But at the time, Halle was being mum about her pregnancy, although we went on record as suspecting that it was true. She has always wanted to be a mom and the time seemed right.

Well take a look at this hot mama! OK, not quite a mama yet but she is due in just weeks and has looked positively glowing all through her pregnancy.

And did we mention that we love her style? In fact we love the bag she is carrying so much in this picture that we were inspired to make a more affordable version.

Urban Expressions Madea Bag - 52.20

Say hello to the Urban Expressions Faux Croc Print Madea Carry. Our version retails for just $58 (though you can get it cheaper right now during our Valentine's Day promotion).

Baghaus Extra Large Bryant Weekender - 58.00

May we also suggest this cute Extra Large Bryant Weekender for a diaper bag once the child is born? We think this will fit right in with Halle's style and compliments the Madea just a bit.

Steal The Look - Kirsten Dunst

If you haven't caught wind of her site already, the Frugal Fashionista is a great destination for pulling together your favorite celebrity looks for less. While celebrities may spend upwards of thousands of dollars on one outfit, the Frugal Fashionista will show you how to do it without breaking the bank.

In this Frugal Fashionista find, we learn how to achieve this hip and chic look on Spiderman's gal Kirsten Dunst:

We have to say, we admire the Frugal Fashionista's taste in handbags. The Highland Tote is one of our favorites and has been seen on everyone from Rihanna to Madonna. Kirsten does a great job accessorizing her classically casual look with the oversized slouchy bag.

Baghaus Highland Tote - 48.90

But why pay thousands when you can get a terrific, high quality bag for under $50? As always, Baghaus is here to save the day by saving you $$$!

Red Hot: Katherine Heigl

We heart Katherine Heigl. Anyone who has seen her most recent movie, 27 Dresses, knows how charming she is. And who would have thought the usually dramatic and often mopey Izzie Stevens from Grey's Anatomy could have such great comic timing?

But it's not just her acting that we love, its her style as well. Simple and understated but with a boost of pizzazz, usually from her handbag. And she really seems to love her red Valentino pintucked bag as of late.

And who wouldn't love this bag? It is gorgeous! The pintucked pattern that goes around the entire bag is unique and gives it a slightly edgy feel compared to what a basic bag in the same hue would look like.

Unfortunately for those who dig this style, the Valentino bag costs a whopping $2295. That's more than some households spend in a month!

Baghaus Pintucked Handbag - $45.00

Luckily, Baghaus has a version that is just as chic but much more affordable. At only $50, this will save your budget and still make you look like a fashionista. In fact, if you act now while our bags are on sale for Valentine's day, you can get an additional $5 off the bag, making it just $45! Order quickly!

Really Expensive Stuff That Nobody Really Needs

Part of being a fashion and handbag blog is that sometimes you find some really ridiculous stuff that designers come up with. They are definitely things that make you go, "hmmmm …"

Now, with global warming concerns at an all-time high, we do have to give Chanel props for thinking of the environment. But that is where the props end. This 8-speed bike featuring the iconic Chanel quilting is retailing in the UK for the US equivalent of $9,813.
