Here Comes the Spice Girls Media Blitz!

We knew when the Spice Girls announced their reunion tour awhile back that the dozen or so dates announced would not be enough. Though we don't exactly jam to their music, they have tons of fans around the world and a handful of concerts simply wouldn’t be enough.

Little did we know just how right we would be. They had to add dozens of new dates, and have yet to announce any in New York City, where demand will surely be quite high. In addition to these dates for fans, the Girls have announced one more big and important date – a November 15th appearance at this year's Victoria's Secret fashion show. After the success of Justin Timberlake last year, we guess the peeps at Victoria's wanted to up the ante a bit.

But that is not the only Spice Girls news. Two other big pieces were revealed in the last week: the first is that Roberto Cavalli will be dressing Scary, Posh, Sporty, Ginger and Baby. It had been previously thought that Donatella Versace would outfit them, but that has apparently fallen through (with no reason as to why). The other big news is that U2 frontman Bono will be collaborating with the girls on a song that they will play on their tour.

Should be a very interesting collaboration indeed, we can't wait to hear what it sounds like!

Sheryl Crow, Fashion Designer

Don't act surprised. We weren't. It seems like every other day, we report on the newest celeb designer wannabe that has inexplicably signed a deal for their own clothing line. This time, it is musician Sheryl Crow.

We like Crow's music but some of her past fashion choices have been less than inspired. Her style seems to be very basic, and there is nothing wrong with that. But with a celebrity label comes celebrity prices, and we are not going to pay extra for something we can get at Target just because it has Crowe's name attached.

That being said, the deal is supposedly with Western Glove Works and it will be a line made up of primarily denim that is tentatively called Bootheel Trading Co. by Sheryl Crow. We do love our denim, so like anything else we will wait to pass judgment until we see the clothes. Unfortunately, we will be waiting another year, since the line is not slated for release until fall of 2008.

In case the Western Glove Works name sounds familiar, it is probably because they own Silver Jeans and 1921. They also recently put out the DVB Denim collection, which is that of David and Victoria Beckham. Here are a few shots of that collection:

Shoes Made by Designers Who Hate Women

We always make a point to do a blog post whenever we run across any shoes that we think are completely outrageous. And of course with Paris Fashion Week just completing its run, there have been more than usual. So let's talk about some of these shoes and why on earth someone would think it was a good idea.

This one has been around awhile, but we haven't posted it here before, so we thought we would. How anyone even straps those on, much less walks in them, is beyond our comprehension.

The reason we thought of the aforementioned pair is because this pair that Victoria Beckham wore on a recent Paris photo shoot reminded us of them. These were designed just for her, apparently and she had to learn how to walk in them … duh!

We wonder how long it took to learn to walk in these, as well. Or can you only stand around in them?

Then, there are painful shoes of another sort. These may actually be quite comfortable, but they are one of the ugliest pairs of shoes we have ever seen … which is a pain of a whole different kind, but one that equally hurts …

Yep, crocs have gone Uggs on us. Since we have always thought both shoes were hideous, this unnatural and evil spawn makes our fashion spidey sense tingle, and not in a good way.

Fringe Benefits?

Every celebrity has some fashion missteps. They wouldn't be human if they didn't. Nobody can possibly look good all the time, particularly not in this day and age when paparazzi are everywhere, trying to get a pic of you stepping outside your house to get your newspaper in your bathrobe.

That being said, sometimes there are pictures of celebs wearing outfits that totally puzzle us. Here is what we mean:

The Posh one, Victoria Beckham wearing this green mess while out and about with husband David in Los Angeles recently.

Look, Vicky – we get that you are excited to be in LA, where you can still wear short skirts like this in September. Back in your native London you already have cooler weather. But just because you CAN wear a dress like this, doesn't mean you SHOULD.

What is up with the fringe-like pieces of cloth? It looks like the seamstress ran out of time to do this properly. And then to add insult to fashion injury, there is a tie and an equally-hideous green purse to match!

In Beckham's defense, she wasn't the only one with a taste for tacky fringe this week.

Ashley Olsen ran errands in Hollywood this week wearing this brown mess that looks like a plastic table cloth with slits cut into it. Step up your game, ladies!

The Spice Girls Reunion Tour

null
The gimmicky Girls back in the day.

We know that the Spice Girls will be laughing all the way to the bank after their short reunion tour that begins in December. After all, each of the Girls will be pocketing a cool $10 million to do what was originally slated for only 10 shows, but is likely to expand to as many as 15 in the near future.

Some Interesting Stats About Our Favorite Obsession

Dana Thomas is Newsweek's Paris-based Culture and Fashion writer, and she has a new book coming out called Deluxe: How Luxury Lost Its Luster that talks all about luxury brands and the very thing that has basically saved them this millennium – the It Bag.

An interesting stat that Ms. Thomas found, courtesy of a yearly survey by one of our favorite purse purveyors, Coach is that in less than five years, the number of handbags that the average woman bought doubled. In 2000, it was roughly two new purses a year, while just four short years later in 2004, it was four. That is unprecedented growth for any retailer, not to mention the usually niche luxury market.

The Birkin is generally accepted as the first It Bag that started the rage

But, as Ms. Thomas points out, luxury brands (particularly handbags) have become almost commonplace, and therefore lost their luster a bit. But most luxury brands wouldn't have it any other way. "The bag is the miracle of the company" gushes Miucci Prada to Thomas in her book.

The miracle of Prada. It doesn't hurt that Victoria Beckham is carrying it, of course.

With Louis Vuitton selling more than 40% of their goods at their flagship Tokyo store in just leather goods alone (most of which are handbags and matching wallets), we can see why some luxury brands are not so quick to try and pull back the reigns on this trend. They have $11.7 billion reasons to keep the current bag-obsessive trend. That would be the sales of handbags in 2004.

A-Listers Come Out in Support of Karl Lagerfeld and Chanel

You won't find Kathy Griffin or her fellow D-listers here! It was strictly an A-list affair as Hollywood went gaga over Karl Lagerfeld and the legendary house of Chanel. We always adore these parties, because it lets us see a good mix of past and present fashions from said designer, instead of only the new ones that are still a season away from production, like at the fashion shows.

We also love them because they give us the chance to make fun of any celebs that might make a misstep in their styling choices. And though it is hard to find any misses amongst the hits when everyone is wearing Chanel, we did manage to find a few that didn't quite make the cut.

Now you know where she earned the nickname Posh. We always have and always will absolutely love the iconic tweed jacket that just screams Chanel, even for those who don't follow fashion all that closely. She looks great in this bright springy version.

We didn't realize Sarah Michelle Gellar was still acting, to be honest. If she was trying to draw attention to her new movie, this isn't the way to do it. She looks sloppy and this dress does nothing for her. She could have done much better.

Ali Larter shows that being one of the Heroes means super fashion powers, too. Simply stunning!

We want to like this dress. We tried to like this dress, but in the end it just isn't happening for us. A tad too short and trying to hard to look deconstructed. But you can't win them all, and overall most of the divas looked hot on Lagerfeld's special night.

Hot Trends: Victoria Beckham's DVB Sunglasses

"So whatchu really really want…my sunglasses?"

Its Monday and the blogosphere is buzzin about Posh's new line of DVB Sunglasses. We have to give it to her, after seeing her eyewear line on DVBstyle.com, we count ourselves big fans of her oversized & retro style frames (oh yeah, and her husband's abs. Yow!). Apparently, J-Lo is also a fan of DVB:

Because she is in dire need of financial assistance and publicity, we thought we oughta step up to our humanitarian duty and help promote our beloved Mrs. Beckham some more. So check out more pictures of Posh in her daily life after the jump.
