Costume Institute Gala: Our Favorites and Flinchers

Each year, the Met holds its Costume Institute Gala. The A-List affair allows your favorite celebs get to dress up in a way that might normally get them a Worst Dressed on the red carpet.

Here are some of our favorites from the Gala, and a few that made us flinch.

Fave:



La Lopez always knows how to look good, even when her makeup artist is a little heavy with his brushes. But tonight, she looked sleek and feminine, and we love the curls.

Flinch:



How can you go from the curvy Bridget Jones to this shapeless bod? Even jutting out her hip, she still looks like she has none, and part of the reason is the cut and style of this dress.

Fave:



The train of this dress is impractical, but who cares on a night like this? The color goes so well with Lucy's features – it all just came together for her.

Flinch:



A little cleavage is sexy, especially when it's natural like Jessica's. But someone needs to tell her that it's only sexy when it comes out of one end of the dress, not both. Then it just looks slutty.

Fave:



There has been much press about Kate Bosworth's recent weight gain, and that is a good thing. Girlfriend no longer looks like a bag of antlers. Her weight gain made her glow in this Prada dress. Which leads us to …

Flinch:



Mary-Kate Olsen. She looks anorexic in this black Lily et Cie gown. It could be the cut of the dress, the overpowering feathers or the fact that black is slimming. We hope that's all it is, because she looks WAY too skinny here. Perhaps she needs to talk to her twin, who looked reasonably healthy in her John Galanos belted sheath:
