RIP: Jane Magazine

We were shocked when we heard about our beloved Jane magazine was shuttered yesterday. Not only the magazine (which will cease with the August issue) but also the website, which we loved (mostly because there were so many freebies).
See, in high school we were Sassy girls, the magazine of original Jane editor Jane Pratt. When Jane left to 'pursue other opportunities' which of course meant she was forced out, we were very worried about the editorial tone the new mag might take. Our fears were confirmed over the last couple of years because Jane turned into a printed identity crisis. We just didn't know who the magazine was trying to be anymore. Despite this, we still loved it and faithfully re-upped our subscription every year. For $10 a year, it was the best fashion mag bargain going!

Unfortunately, things spiraled out of control much too quickly, and now it is finito. We will miss it, but we have a feeling many new secrets will come out of the now-empty halls. In fact, some already have, as a very loosely-veiled tome has been released by Pratt's longtime assistant at Jane, Karen Yampolsky. Called Falling Out of Fashion, it has quite a bit of good stuff about the humble beginning and mixed aspirations of the magazine. A definite must-read beach book!
