A Big Valentine to Valentino

We slightly lamented in a previous post about how conservative we thought some of last week's Paris Couture Week shows were. Though the clothes were obviously still not rack ready (which of course is the point with couture), we honestly felt like a minor alteration here, one different fabric there, and they indeed would be ready to wear.

We were wondering where the over-the-top pieces were that we absolutely love to see. You know, the trainwreck ones that you would never wear but love to still see walk down the runway. Valentino's recent show was no different, at first. Sure, the pieces were pretty and fun to look at:

Heck, we would wear this in a heartbeat!

We have seen this look before. We think it was an old episode of Dynasty on Alexis.

But a funny thing happened on the way to Boringville. Some of the pieces gradually started getting interesting …

And finally, we got some of the trainwrecks we were talking about. Clothes so over-the-top that they are infinitely unwearable but very watchable down the runway:
