Vera Wang for Kohl's

We have blogged before about how top designers are going budget by producing affordable lines for mass retailers. One of the most prominent is the Isaac Mizrahi line for Target, which has been going strong for several years and seems almost to be a permanent partnership.

The newest retailer to pull a big name from the designer hat is Kohl's, a department store that sells clothes, home furnishings, kitchenware and shoes. But the name they signed on to design for them is admittedly one that we didn't anticipate – Vera Wang.

The trendy designer has been known to stray into slightly bizarre territory a time or two, so we were most curious what she would design for a middle-American store like Kohl's. The results were a bit surprising. Wang said she tended towards dark colors that are slimming but with splashes of color and a few Vera flairs.

Here are a few pics:

This isn't bad, but the sleeves remind us too much of that Seinfeld episode. Not quite as puffy in the sleeves but a little too much nonetheless.

Eh, this is pretty basic and nothing unlike what you could get from Target or maybe even the gawd-awful Wal-Mart designer lines.

This one is probably our favorite, simply because it reminds us the most of the slightly-quirky designer. It looks like a toned-down Wang outfit that still has a little edge to it that quite honestly, we wouldn't think we would see in a Kohl's.
